Euphonium (Club Mix)

IMG_9209.jpeg

Isn’t the club mix of Swedish Eurovision Star’s “Euphonium” the best? Really is…there have been other Swedish pop groups like that one** who did “Thingie Thingie Thingie”, “Chicken Cheater”, “My Nando” and others ….but Loreen’s Euphonium is easily the best.

(** By the by, you can pay a £100 in London to see that other pop group perform at a gig they’re not at, but provide some sustenance to the families of the backing band, who are actually there.)

So now we’re in Sturka-home, capital of Sveden. The deluxe first class carriage taking me there came complete with free bananas, sweeties and coffee, so I’m geared up for a couple of days of touristen trappen despite an hour or “sixty three minutes delay due to the train not arriving on time in Oslo”.

Figures.

What a day, arriving in Stockholm at -7 deg 2 hour late, then some lovely folk steered me to a lift to take me down to ground and my hotel level…. It’s the coldest I’ve ever felt and fortunately the hotel is a stunner and close by too as are some very friendly bars and a meatball selling restaurant/bar that’s terrific….gotta weekend to explore in double thermals.

The Old Town is the most famous and run by a chap called Gamla Stan. There’s Royal Palaces, Law Courts, Cathedrals and Fridge Magnet shops….there’s a load of cobbles and quaint squares with lovely coloured houses. There’s lots of restaurants mostly selling Reindeer Stew and Meatballs, making a change from the usual burger fare. This time of year there’s lots of Glogg (mulled stuff), sold to you super hot and with a gingerbread heart….delish and needed.
Swedish folk are fun happy and chatty it seems, especially later in the evening when I met the mad Anna and hubby in a lovely old pub who laughed like drains and shared my feelings for uh Swedish pop music!

Aaaaah, last supper at traditional “Swedish Pub”, The Bishops Arms (a chain across the land serving grand trad food plus zillions of great international beers…

After checking out the madly busy and Christmassy shopping streets, am feeling grand and in the mood for my next stop, a place where my maternal grandma was born and raised. So there…… and roll on Wunderbar Wunderbar Kopenhavn……
